Man holding his head with a headache.Headaches are becoming increasingly more common due to the activities and stresses of modern life. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it has been estimated that nearly half of the adult population has experienced a headache at least one time within the past year. Our chiropractor has helped many patients cope with their headache related pain.

What type of Headache do I have?

Below are some of the most common types of headaches treated in our office:

Tension. A tension headache can be described as a dull pressure or tightness that is felt on both sides of the head, also referred to as a band around the head causing pressure. The headaches can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a week and usually occur infrequently to daily.

Migraine. Migraine headaches can be described as a moderate to severe throbbing pain. Majority of migraines are felt on one side of the head, although a smaller percentage of patients complain of migraines on both sides of their head. Nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to smell, light and sound are all additional symptoms many patients experience.

Cervicogenic. Cervicogenic headaches are unique in the sense that they occur from an abnormality or structures in the neck. The pain is usually localized to the neck and or suboccipital region and may sometimes project to the eye. These headaches tend to affect one side of the head and last anywhere from 3 hours to a week, recurring at intervals of 2 days up to 3 months.
